BRANDON, Fla. (WFLA) — A standoff with a barricaded man in Hillsborough County has ended, but a deputy was hospitalized after being shot by the suspect.
The sheriff’s office said 33-year-old Deputy Adriel Gonzalez is expected to make a full recovery.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says the standoff took place on North Taylor Road in Brandon. SWAT teams and a bomb squad were there as crisis negotiators worked to peacefully resolve the situation, the sheriff’s office said late Friday afternoon.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister, 48-year-old James Jackson struck his mother in the side of the head, her face, and her pacemaker, however, she is expected to make a full recovery.
“She’s a tough old lady,” Sheriff Chronister said.
According to the sheriff’s office, Jackson was in the back of the house and did not want to leave following the incident with his mother. When Deputy Gonzalez went to check on his well-being, Jackson shot through the door and striking the deputy on the edge of his ballistic vest.
Gonzalez is expected to make a full recovery.
Following a seven-hour standoff with Jackson, he surrendered to deputies after being shot in the torso. He is currently in surgery for non-life-threatening injuries.
Jackson has no previous criminal history, however, has been Baker acted four times, including one that was voluntary. He also has been previously Marchman acted. He faces two counts of attempted murder on a law enforcement officer and a domestic violence charge. Additional charges are pending, and the investigation is ongoing.
