TAMPA (WFLA) – The Tampa Police Department has arrested a retired Tampa police sergeant on 100 counts of child pornography.
According to Tampa Police Chief Mary O’Connor, Paul Mumford, 61 was a sergeant with the agency from 1986 till his retirement in 2015 and was part of the sex-crimes unit from 2008 until 2009.
At this time it is not believed Mumford obtained the images while working in the unit, however, an investigation is ongoing.
The department was informed that he was in possession of illegal images of children on his electronic devices in December 2021.
Mumford served as a reserve officer with the department in October 2015 until he was relieved of his duties on Feb. 15. O’Connor said he was suspended and released from all duties in February.
He is being held on a $750,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing and more charges could be pending.
