BRANDON, Fla. (WFLA) – Investigators are trying to figure out what started a fire at a church fellowship hall in Brandon Thursday night.
The fire burned the New Testament Church on 913 Dew Bloom Road. The fire did not spread to the church sanctuary.
According to a Hillsborough County Fire Rescue spokesperson, the call came in at 9:35 p.m. It took around 20 minutes to put out the fire.
No one was in the church at the time.
“It’s terrible, it’s sad,” said churchmember Javier Nava, who has been attending services at the church since 1976 and helped build the church.
“I’m okay. I’m okay. I’m holding up. Just got to be strong. Your faith keeps you strong,” he said.
One firefighter was taken to a hospital after he collapsed at the scene. He’s expected to be okay.
