TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Traffic came to a halt on the northbound lanes on I-75 following a deadly crash Friday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The FHP said a tractor-trailer carrying gas tanks was heading north on I-75 when it collided with another tractor-trailer that was stopped in the outside shoulder at Exit 256.
Troopers said it is not known why the first tractor-trailer drifted into the outside shoulder.
The crash ended up knocking the gas tanks off the first tractor trailer and caused them to fall on a Buick Enclave carrying four people from Ruskin, killing a 49-year-old woman and injuring the three other occupants.
Two of the occupants were 10 and 4 years old, troopers said.
After the crash, the second tractor-trailer, which was carrying clothes, caught on fire. The driver only suffered minor injuries, and the vehicle was extinguished by firefighters.
