TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — An SUV was traveling the wrong way on Dale Mabry Highway when it crashed into a sedan, killing both drivers, authorities said.

The crash occurred at about 3 a.m. along northbound Dale Mabry Highway near Hunt Road.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a 24-year-old driver was heading south down the highway when for unknown reasons, she moved into the northbound lanes, where she struck another vehicle head-on.

The woman and the other driver, a 23-year-old woman from Tampa, died at the scene.

Cherry Mitchell tells 8 on your side one of the women who died Tuesday morning was her friend Benecia Reynolds. Her friends knew her as Dymond.

“She was full of life, so full of life,” Mitchell said. “We will never forget you and I’m so sorry.”

Mitchell says Reynolds was planning her birthday later this summer. Family and friends are now focused on celebrating her life.

“When I say we’re going to celebrate, we’re going to celebrate like never before,” Mitchell said. We’re going to celebrate like Dymond celebrates.”
