This weekend, Tampa has transformed into the pop culture mecca of the southeast. MegaCon is in full swing, and it has brought along a who’s who of celebrities and fans.

The Marvel universe, DC universe, Star Wars universe – you name it, they’re here! The stars have aligned, luring a legion of fans to MegaCon.

“If you haven’t gone to a con, do it. If you think you might want to dress up, do it,” said Ghostbuster Andrea McCasland.

Around 30,000 people are expected to take part in the three-day event at the Tampa Convention Center. Of course, they’re here for the main attractions – meeting celebrities, getting autographs, buying merchandise…you can even find someone to date!

But honestly, the fans are an attraction themselves.

Whether its Goku or Michael Myers, you don’t know who you’ll bump into. People spend months preparing for this event.

“[My suit] originally cost about $4,000 and then I added a heads-up display, microphone and CO2 jetpack,” said Iron Man Mike Lippa.

Months of preparation goes into security as well.

“As event producers, everyone in this day and age has to be diligent about, so we’re working with a number of key stakeholders including the Tampa Bay police, of course, the Tampa Convention Center, and we have our own security firm that we engage as well,” Fan Expo HQ VP Andrew Moyes said.

But rest assured, there’s plenty of fun and activities for the whole family to enjoy. MegaCon runs through Sunday.
