TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA)  – Grab your jackets, it is a cold one in the Tampa Bay area.

News Channel 8 Meteorologist Leigh Spann says north winds of 10 to 20 mph are making it feel like it’s 15 to 35 degrees outside.

Residents in the Tampa Bay area woke up to cold temperatures this morning.

It was 36 degrees in Crystal River and Homosassa around 4 a.m. People in Clearwater woke up to a chilly 37-degree temperature, in St. Pete it was 43 degrees and it was 40 degrees in Tampa.

Despite the cold temperatures, people were still out trying to get their morning workout in on Bayshore Boulevard.

“I have my ski gloves on, my cold hat, three layers here, and I have my pants on. If I have my pants on it is cold,” said Bob Yee.

Tuesday morning there was a rush on hot coffee at Daily Eats as customers stopped by for breakfast and a warm up from the bitter cold temperatures.

The outdoor patio was not an option for most customers despite the heaters. Inside, even the servers have sweaters and gloves on, trying to warm up. For many, the cold and wind Tuesday morning was a shock to the system.

“It is just freezing. The first thing I wanted to do is grab my house coat and just cuddle up under the blankets,” said Leah Becker, a server at Daily Eats.

As Becker waits on customers she runs into many trying to get warm too.

“I actually had to start my heat up for the first time in a long time,” said Peter Sainz.

Peter Sainz was born and raised in Florida, with a few extra layers on he is welcoming the cold. “It is a nice break. It is always so hot down here it is nice to have a little bit of a ‘season’,” he said.

But others like Becker are ready for Mother Nature to turn the heat back on. “This is why I moved to Florida. It isn’t supposed to be like this is it supposed to be hot,” she said
