Busch Gardens Tampa Bay welcomed a new baby giraffe last week.
A spokeswoman says “the luck of the Irish was alive” when Bititi gave birth to the baby girl on the eve of St. Patrick’s Day.
The calf, named Patty, is about 5’5″ tall and weighs about 105 pounds.
A spokeswoman says both Patty and Bititi will be on the Serengeti plain soon for visitors to see.
Patty is the third giraffe born at Busch Gardens in the past four months. Her birth is part of the park’s participation in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan.
The plan is to manage threatened or endangered species within accredited facilities.
“Busch Gardens’ participation helps create genetically diverse, self-sustaining populations to guarantee the long-term future of these animals,” a spokeswoman said in a statement.
