Moments after 4-year-old Je’hyrah Daniels was thrown into the Hillsborough River, a man called 911.

“Two people just noticed, uh, witnessed somebody throwing a child in the river, in the Hillsborough River, and they took off,” said the caller.

The caller advised the operator he had just come home from work and two women cleaning his mother’s home had witnessed the event. He had not.

The workers only speak Spanish and did not call 911 themselves.

The Tampa Police Department sent their dive team and they were able to locate Je’Hyrah’s lifeless body in the river a short time later.

Just days before her death, investigators from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office met with Je’Hyrah’s mother, Shakayla Denson, but found nothing wrong in the home.

A report found: “The child resides with the mother, whose home is appropriate and free of any hazards. The home is equipped with a security system. The child appears to be well cared for and free of any marks or bruises.”

Just days after the report was completed and the case closed Je’Hyrah died in the river.

Shakayla Denson is now charged with aggravated child abuse and murder. She is scheduled to appear in a Hillsborough County court later this week.
