TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tampa police have arrested a third suspect involved in the Ybor shooting that occurred on Oct. 29.
Chief Lee Bercaw announced that 21-year-old Dwayne Tillman Jr. was arrested Thursday, just 24 hours after the arrest of a 14-year-old, Kayden Abney.
Tillman Jr. is being charged with attempted second-degree murder and aggravated battery with great bodily harm. These both serve a minimum of 20 years in prison.
Detectives determined Tillman arrived in the area along with Elijah Wilson, Abney, and others, dressed in a black knit cap, a black T-shirt, black pants, and green and black shoes.
The police department said Tillman was then involved in a gunfight. After Tyrell Phillips shot Wilson, he was caught on video shooting into a crowd, as Phillips ran away. The Chief referred to him as “reckless.”
Phillips was arrested just hours after the shooting and charged with second-degree murder. On Dec. 6, Tampa Police announced Abney’s arrest on Nov. 16. Abney was charged as an adult for the death of 20-year-old Harrison Boonstoppel.
Police believe there is one more shooter in connection to this incident.
“My thoughts remain with the victims and their families,” Chief Bercaw said. “It should be clear to anyone at this point that if you participate in criminal activity, you will be arrested, you will be prosecuted, and justice will be found for those who suffered from your actions. This additional arrest is another demonstration of our commitment to holding criminals accountable and I can only hope it provides a small sense of closure for the families of all those who have been impacted.”
“He had no regard for human life and will pay for his actions,” State Attorney Suzy Lopez added.
Among the two killed, 16 others were injured when at least one gunman opened fire along 7th Avenue, the main drag of the entertainment district.
TPD increased the reward to $27,000 for additional tips that will lead to the arrests of the remaining suspects.
The mass shooting remains an ongoing investigation.
