TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Two people were rescued from a Tampa apartment fire by car dealership employees and neighbors on Monday.
Tampa Fire Rescue responded to the fire at the Parkview Apartments, located at 10981 Brittany Lane, around 4:55 p.m.
Crews found heavy smoke and tall flames coming from two apartments on the north end of the two-story building.
Employees from the two nearby auto dealerships and neighbors rushed to assist the two residents from the second story apartment, using a ladder one of the neighbors had placed under the window.
One of the employees is a former volunteer firefighter.
The two residents were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
A firefighter suffered a minor lower body injury at the scene and was also taken to a hospital.
The fire was under control by 5:45 p.m.
The Red Cross was notified that 10 adult residents were displaced due to the fire.
Investigators’ preliminary findings say the incident was caused by a kitchen fire in the downstairs unit that quickly spread. It is believed to be accidental.
