Students at 162 Hillsborough County Public Schools, including three additional schools, will be offered a free nutritious snack or meal if they are participating in after school programs.
Doby Elementary, Dawson Elementary and Mulrennan Middle School will qualify for the free Afterschool Meals Program because more than 50 percent of the enrolled students at the schools are eligible for free or reduced-price meals.
Snacks can include fruit, whole-grain muffins, vegetables and yogurt with granola.
Meals can include turkey and ham sandwiches on whole-grain rolls and tacos with ground turkey or beef.
Funding for the program comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service.
