TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Police are investigating a fatal shooting late Sunday evening just outside the Bello Bar and Kitchen in downtown Tampa.
The Tampa Police Department confirmed one man was killed and one other man is in the hospital after having been shot. It’s unclear how he is doing at this time.
Investigators have spoken with several witnesses and the shooter is cooperating with police. The shooters identity has not yet been released.
Witnesses told 8 On Your Side a fight broke out between two men at the restaurant, located near the intersection of E Cass Street and North Franklin Street.
Witnesses said shots were fired, prompting people to rush for cover inside the restaurant.
“My heart goes out to the family that’s going to get that bad news,” said Annette, who was in the area at the time of the shooting. “It did not have to end that way. It looked like it was just a scuffle and I don’t know why the gunshot came into play.”
“This type of stuff has to stop,” said Ron, who lives in a neighboring building. “It’s just one after another. We’re thinking about moving out of the building because of this.”
The deadly shooting comes just as the Tampa Police Chief nominee, Mary O’Connor, holds a community forum addressing gun violence Monday night. It’s at 5:30 p.m. at the Saint Leo University Tampa Education Center on Howard Avenue.
