Hernando deputies capture escaped inmate

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A manhunt ended Thursday morning when Hernando County Sheriff’s Office deputies captured an escaped inmate.

Joshua Holmes, age 35, escaped Wednesday afternoon while on supervised work detail.

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office was called to the Northwest Solid Waste Management Facility landfill located on Norris Bishop Loop at 12:21 p.m. to look for Holmes.

Deputies say Holmes had been working under the supervision of Hernando County landfill employees and left the facility without authorization.

Deputies believe Holmes stole a blue 1971 Chevrolet C10 pickup truck after he escaped.

Three schools were put on a modified lockdown due to the inmate on the run: Parrot Middle School, Winding Waters K-8 and Weeki Wachee High School. Afternoon activities were also canceled at Parrott and Winding Waters. Weeki Wachee has a secured football practice monitored by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

Holmes is serving a sentence for VOP grand theft auto charges.STORIES OTHERS ARE CLICKING ON-
