TAMPA (WFLA) — A week of celebration kicked off Tuesday when pirates invaded downtown Tampa to “capture” the mayor for Gasparilla.
The swashbuckling scallywags of the Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla (noisily) made their way toward Lykes Gaslight Park to meet with Mayor Jane Castor and negotiate the city’s surrender.
After the mayor did not show, the pirates “captured” Mayor Castor and escorted her to the park where she refused to give the pirates the key to the city.
“Absolutely not,” said Mayor Castor.
After refusing the pirates their booty, the Krewe declared they would invade Tampa and take the key for themselves on Saturday.
