MONROE COUTY, FL (WFLA) – A young Key deer got stuck in a tree fork on Big Pine Key. FWC officers and a deputy on patrol worked to get it out.
A woman noticed the poor animal stuck in the tree and called Monroe County Sheriff’s dispatch. A deputy on patrol nearby responded and tried to help free the deer himself. He had to call in a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer because he couldn’t get the deer out himself. Two of them tried to pull the deer out or pick it up and move it around but it was stuck.
More FWC officers responded to the rescue.
Finally, the animal got so agitated by all the people around it that it weaseled out of the tree fork by itself.
The responding FWC officers said they had never seen a deer stuck in a tree like this before.
The Key deer are found only in the lower Florida Keys and nowhere else in the world. They are the smaller subspecies of the white-tailed deer. They are endangered species.MORE STORIES:
