Former Casey Anthony attorney arrested in cocaine smuggling case

ORLANDO, Fla. (WESH) — One of Casey Anthony’s former attorneys is being held in jail on drug trafficking charges.

Todd Macaluso, 54, was planning on moving more than 3,000 pounds of cocaine into the U.S. for distribution when he was arrested, according to a federal complaint.

After flying from Orlando to Port-au-Prince, Haiti on Nov. 14, Macaluso was recorded discussing a plan to transport cocaine for $150,000.

Macaluso, who is a pilot, was recorded saying the Falcon 10 jet that he had flown to Haiti had room for 1,500 kilograms of cocaine, according to court documents. He was one of three men arrested in the case.

Macaluso was a member of Anthony’s defense team, but was dropped after being disbarred in 2010. In 2015, he served time in jail for misusing client trust funds.

An Orlando jury acquitted Anthony in July 2011 of murdering her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee.

Macaluso reportedly flew Anthony out of Orlando on a private jet after her release.

Casey Anthony has kept a low profile since she was acquitted in her daughter’s murder. She filed documents to open a photography business.

Prosecutors in her murder trial recently spoke out about the case. RELATED-
