ORLANDO, Fla. (WESH)— Two people have been arrested for the death of a grandfather who deputies say was killed outside a CVS.
Javonne Marece White, 19, and Jasmine Yvonne Munro, 25, are facing charges of felony first-degree murder and carjacking.
Deputies say 78-year-old Uken Cummings was gunned down in broad daylight Sunday, Jan. 30, in the CVS parking lot on Silver Star Road after picking up his medication.
They say Cummings was returning to his car when he was confronted by two suspects who shot him and stole his car. The suspects are accused of also running over Cummings before fleeing the scene.
White and Munro are being held on bond and are expected to go before a judge later Thursday.
Officials believe there was one more person involved in the incident that has not yet been caught.
“He was a hard-working man, he was retired,” Cummings’ son, who did not want to be identified, said. “He was a father, a brother, a grandfather. He didn’t deserve this at all.”
The victim’s son said his father’s death is troubling and hard to take.
“We’re people who don’t bother anybody, I don’t understand how any of this happened,” he said. “It’s bad, man, and I know for people, the elderly like that, it makes them not want to come out at all, and that’s no way to live. It’s senseless.”
Sheriff John Mina called the suspects “heartless murderers.”
“To the senseless killers who senselessly ripped this man from his family. we’re coming for you,” Mina said.
