Orlando police said that if it weren’t for two men, Alfredo Sanchez, 49, might have gotten away with kidnapping an 8-year-old girl from Orlando International Airport.

Sean Sherman said he was one of the two people who stopped Sanchez.

“I would say he looked bewildered. He looked very frightened. I’m not exactly sure he knew what was going on,” Sherman said.

Police said around 9:20 p.m. Saturday, close to the B side exit, Sanchez grabbed the child from behind, picked her up, and ran away with her while yelling, “This is my girl.”

Police said two heroes stepped in. Sherman said he stopped Sanchez while a second man put a cane around his neck and took him to the ground.

WESH 2 News spoke to Sanchez’s wife, who said the two are getting divorced and they are not living together now. She said Sanchez is very unpredictable and that she is sorry the incident occurred. She said she had nothing to do with the incident, but she offered her apologies to the victim and the victim’s family.

Sanchez’s wife went on to say that she had a restraining order against him, and that if he wanted to see a child, he could have picked up his own daughter, who he was supposed to have custody of over the weekend.

“He didn’t pick up our child, but tries to grab somebody else’s child,” she said.

Police said the little girl was not physically hurt, but was mentally traumatized.

“I am truly sorry that they had to experience this,” Sanchez’s wife said.

Sanchez is in jail with his bond set at $20,000.
