USF, other Florida universities make best value list

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The University of South Florida has been ranked as one of the country’s best values in higher education – as have a number of other Florida schools.

Kiplinger’s Personal Finance ranked public universities based on the value for in-state students, placing USF at 45th. The school was ranked 52nd in 2014, a USF spokesman said.

“USF has continued to make significant gains in the annual rankings since placing 87th in 2012, and has improved more than any other state university in Florida over that time period,” the USF spokesman said.

The rankings are based on a university’s value for in-state students. Kiplinger’s considers admission and retention rates, student-faculty ratios and graduation rates. In addition, the publication analyzes financial factors, including the cost of attending, financial aid and students’ average debt.

The University of Florida ranked 2nd, while New College of Florida ranked 14th. At 16th, came Florida State University. The University of Central Florida was ranked 36th.

Meanwhile, the University of North Florida made the cut – at 67th, and Florida International University was listed at 72nd.
