A Tampa Bay insurance company rewarded a Georgia teacher in a big way, and all she had to do was read the fine print on her policy.

Squaremouth, a insurance comparison firm with offices in St. Petersburg, began a secret promotion to reward the first person who read through the end of their policy.  On the final page, buried in the fine print, was a section titled “Pays to Read,” where it says the following:

If you are reading this within the contest period, February 11th, 2019 through January 31, 2020, and are the first to contact us, you may be awarded the Pays to Read contest Grand Prize of ten thousand dollars.

It didn’t take long — 23 hours to be exact — for some to find the promotion and call Squaremouth.

It was Georgia high school teacher Donelan Andrews, 59, who was less than a month away from retirement.  She plans on using that money on an upcoming vacation to Scotland.

Squaremouth spokesperson Jenna Hummer says the promotion was to raise awareness on the importance of reading through your policy before you sign your name on it.

“We do everything in our power to do that, so we thought that this campaign would bring awareness in a fun and exciting way,” Hummer said.
