Target donates $1M to Hurricane Michael relief efforts

Target has donated $1 million to help victims of Hurricane Michael recover.

In a news release, the company said the donation is going to Team Rubicon, the American Red Cross, GlobalGiving and Habitat for Humanity to help with cleanup and recovery.

“At Target, we’re committed to serving our communities all year long – because when we help build strong communities, the guests and team members who live there help us build a strong business,” company officials said in a statement.

When Hurricane Michael started approaching the Gulf Coast last week, Target says it started to provide thousands of dollars in gift cards to stores that were in the storm’s path to give to the community based on their needs.

Some of the donation money also went to Target’s Team Member Giving Fund. The fund directly supports team members who have been impacted by disasters.

“We’re contacting every team member in the impacted areas to make sure they’re safe, and encouraging those affected by the hurricane to tap into the Team Member Giving Fund – a resource built on donations from Target and its team members,” the statement said.

Target stores that were in the areas hit by Hurricane Michael have now reopened, except for the store on Starfish Street in Panama City Beach. The company says that store will likely stay closed for several more days, or even weeks, as they work to make repairs. The store apparently sustained damage to its roof and exterior sign, and had water pooling in the building.
