SANFORD, Fla. (WESH) — A high school in Sanford, Florida was placed on lockdown Wednesday after a shooting took place on campus.
Police said one student was shot three times but ultimately suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Another student, who was only described as being 16 years old, was taken into custody as a suspect in the incident.
“This was an isolated incident,” the school wrote in a statement. “Students are safe on campus, but will remain in lockdown until cleared by law enforcement.”
Hours later, police revealed their preliminary findings which suggested the shooting happened after a dispute over a girl.
District officials said the school would be reopened for Thursday classes.
