Steelers QB Dwayne Haskins dead after being hit by truck in Florida

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WKBN/WFLA) – Former Ohio State standout and Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins has died in a traffic incident , according to his agent.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news via social media. The Associated Press reported that Haskins was meant to be working with other teammates in South Florida.

The Florida Highway Patrol told the Associated Press that he was walking on Interstate 595 when he was hit by a dump truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“He was just walking on the highway and got hit,” FHP spokeswoman Lt. Indiana Miranda told The Associated Press.

Haskins joined the Steelers as a free agent in 2021 and spent a season with Pittsburgh.

In his lone season as a starter at Ohio State, Haskins threw for 4,831 yards and 50 touchdown passes. For his career as a Buckeye, Haskins threw for 54 career touchdowns.

Haskins was just 24 years old. It is not known why he was walking on the highway.
