MELBOURNE, Fla. (WESH) — Police in Melbourne rescued a woman in the early hours of Tuesday morning as seen in footage of the ordeal.
At 1 a.m., Officer Peter Dolci was conducting a traffic stop at the Eau Gallie boat ramps when he was flagged down by a witness who saw a car has just driven into the water.
Dolci ran over and saw a 2013 Hyundai submerged in the water, with the driver’s side completely underneath.
Along with Officer Luke Dummer, Dolci went into the water and began trying to extricate the female driver and her companion.
The driver’s companion frantically begs the officers to break the glass.
“I don’t care if it cuts me; she’s gonna die!” he shouts.
The officers pulled the woman to shore, where they observed she had no pulse and was not breathing.
The officers immediately began CPR until paramedics arrived and took over life-saving measures.
As of last report, the driver was breathing on her own and was in stable condition.
