TAMPA (WFLA) – A roof partially collapsed Thursday afternoon in South Florida just weeks after the Surfside condo collapse.
The building is located at 17350 NW 68th Avenue, or the Royalton on the Green Apartments. More than 30 residents were evacuated, according to NBC Miami. They will be allowed back in to get emergency items but after that the building will be closed.
Footage shows a portion of the roof overhang in pieces on the ground below the multiple-story apartment building.
It’s unclear how and why the roof collapsed. There are no reports of injuries so far.
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava told NBC Miami that the building had passed its 40-year inspection and was approaching the 50-year mark. She added nothing in the recertification that indicated there was a problem.
