A man recently caught a large, record-breaking lionfish in the Florida Keys.
The fish caught by Timothy Blasko weighed in at 3.10 pounds, setting the record for the heaviest fish caught in the Atlantic Ocean.
According to the Reef Rangers Facebook page, Blasko was diving in the Tennessee Reef in Mornoe County on Aug. 6 when he caught the fish.
Lionfish are invasive species that have a potential negative impact on native Florida wildlife.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission encourages divers, anglers and commercial harvesters to remove lionfish in Florida waters to limit those negative impacts.
There is no daily bag limit or minimum size limit in either the gulf or Atlantic waters.
