MIAMI, Fla. (WFLA) — For years, South Florida has become the most popular destination for spring breakers, but this year, one of the Sunshine State’s biggest cities announced it’s “breaking up” with spring break.

On March 1, just as Florida is preparing for spring breakers, the City of Miami Beach said they’re done with spring break.

The city announced its decision in a minute-long video, declaring that last year’s crime and issues on the beaches have prompted the city to make serious changes surrounding the week-long vacation.

“This isn’t working anymore, and it’s not us…it’s you. We just want different things,” the video said. The video shows different “locals” speaking, making it seem like they’re ending a relationship.

“You just want to get drunk in public and ignore laws. Do you even remember what happened last March?” a woman in the video asked before a montage of various clips showing officers on the beach and city play.

Due to Miami breaking up with spring break, the city announced spring breakers should “expect curfews, security searches, and bag checks at beach access points, early beach entrance closures, DUI checkpoints, $100 parking, bumper-to-bumper traffic, road closures and arrests for drug possession and violence.”

“Maybe we can talk when you’re done with your spring break phase, but until then, we’re breaking up with spring break,” the city posted on its social media accounts.

Spring breakers who are still planning to vacation in Miami should be aware of the new restrictions, road closures, and parking fees. For more information on what’s new this spring break, visit the City of Miami Beach’s website.
