TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Two people were arrested after Florida police said a man was lured, kidnapped, and forced into a U-Haul before being driven to a McDonald’s.
On Thursday, Miami-Dade police said a 33-year-old man was at a Walmart when he was called by a woman he lives with, identified as Cristina Arrojo, 29, who offered to give him a ride.
According to officials, Arrojo, and another man they live with, identified as Marcelo Asenjo, 52, arrived at the Walmart in a U-Haul box truck. Asenjo accused the victim of stealing a credit card, and then allegedly punched the victim and forced him into a U-Haul truck.
The suspects then drove to a McDonald’s, after attempting to stop at the victim’s father’s house for the alleged stolen credit card. At McDonald’s, the victim was able to ask an employee for help after telling them he was being held hostage.
The fast-food employee called 911, but police said before help could arrive, one of the suspects bit the victim and took his phone before fleeing in the U-Haul.
The U-Haul was later located by police and the duo was arrested and charged with kidnapping.
Police said the victim wasn’t seriously injured.
