TAMPA (WFLA) – A Florida man was arrested after attempting to fly into Southwest Florida Internation Airport with more than 20 pounds of marijuana.

According to WBBH, Jelani Reid checked 24 pounds of marijuana in his luggage on Dec. 13 when he was leaving Sacramento, California.

Recreational marijuana is legal in California, but it’s illegal to cross state lines with it.

WBBH says deputies let Reid board the plane and travel to Fort Myers, and flagged airport officers of Reid’s travel. Sacramento deputies also sent pictures of Reid, his luggage, and the marijuana for authorities in Fort Myers.

According to WBBH, when the flight landed, authorities used a K9 to smell the suspected marijuana and waited for Reid to pick up the bag, but when Reid noticed he was being following he attempted to leave the bag on the conveyor belt.

Officers then detained Reid, and he later admitted the luggage was his and said knew he was transporting marijuana.
