VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WESH) — The man accused of shooting a Daytona Beach police officer in the head has been booked into Volusia County Jail.

Othal Wallace was extradited from Georgia after being arrested near Atlanta. Authorities say Wallace shot officer Jason Raynor in the head last week, critically wounding him while he was investigating a suspicious vehicle.

Wallace was booked into the jail at 6:24 a.m. Friday.

Authorities say when Othal Wallace was found in a treehouse, he allegedly told law enforcement, “you guys know who I am, know what I am capable of … it could have been a lot worse.”

Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young said authorities used Raynor’s handcuffs to arrest Wallace. Raynor remains in critical condition after being shot, but earlier this week Young said he has shown some signs of improvement.

“(Raynor has shown) positive signs of improvement. He still has a ways to go,” Young said. “His outlook is improving, it is a positive one.”

Last Saturday, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office found the car they say Wallace used to get away from the scene in Volusia County in Gainesville. They’re still investigating how it got there and how he got away.
