MELBOURNE, Fla. (WESH) — A man who was sentenced to 23 years in federal prison for armed carjacking is back in custody after being accidentally released from prison, official said.
Brevard County Sheriff’s spokesman Tod Goodyear said 29-year-old Cedrick Gant turned himself over to U.S. Marshals in Orlando on Monday afternoon.
He was sentenced in February after pleading guilty to carjacking. Learn more about that case in the video player above.
Records show Gant was transferred from the Lake County Jail to the Brevard County Jail last week to face sentencing on a violation of probation charge in a separate case. A judge credited him for time served and he was released from jail.
“We received him from another county jail. We were not advised on the transfer that there were any holds on him. He went to court on the Brevard County charges and plead guilty to time served. He was released per the order of the court,” Goodyear said.
