An armed man who was holding two people hostage in a Eustis home was shot and killed by Lake County deputies, authorities say.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called early Thursday to help the Eustis Police Department with a barricaded person who was holding two hostages.

Deputies said it happened near the Grove Square Plaza on Highway 19.

After negotiations for a peaceful surrender failed, the armed man confronted deputies outside of the home, authorities said. He was shot during the confrontation and has been pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office said.

None of the hostages or any deputies were injured.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is on scene investigating the shooting
