Florida’s agriculture commissioner race headed to recount

It appears Florida’s commissioner of agriculture race is headed to a recount.

The Associated Press still hasn’t called the race between Republican Matt Caldwell and Democrat Nikki Fried. As it stands now, Caldwell is ahead of Fried by a little more than 17,000 votes.

Late Tuesday night, Caldwell retweeted a post that stated he would become Florida’s next agriculture commissioner

But on Wednesday morning, Fried’s campaign released a statement saying the race is too close to call and is headed to a recount.

“This is the closest race since we’ve seen here in Florida since Bush v. Gore in 2000 – we’re heading into a recount,” Fried said in a statement. “We are going to ensure that every vote is counted, in a race this close, everyone’s voices must be heard so the will of the people is upheld.”

Whoever wins the race will replace outgoing commissioner Adam Putnam.
