Deputies arrested a woman accused of leaving her boyfriend’s 4-year-old son in the hot car where he died, officials said.
Logan Starling was found dead in a hot car outside Elite Prep Academy in September, according to officials. Officials said his body temperature reached 108 degrees.
On Tuesday, deputies arrested Logan’s father’s girlfriend Mariah Butler, who they said is responsible for his death.
On Wednesday night, Butler was released from jail.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Butler drove five kids to school and said she believed Logan had left the car.
In a written statement, Bultler said, “I physically seen all the children get out of the vehicle.”
Butler said she didn’t know how Logan got back into the car, saying he had autistic spectrum disorder and a history of wandering.
Surveillance cameras showed Logan never left the car, an arrest report said.
Joanna Werner, Logan’s great grandmother, spoke with WESH 2 News about the arrest.
“It’s been a long, long six months just waiting to see if (Butler) was going to be charged, and now, hopefully that this is done, we can start healing as a family,” Werner said.
Butler was given a $15,150 bond and ordered that she should not be left alone with any children.
