Florida sheriff’s office welcomes newest K9 member

The newest four-legged member of a Florida sheriff’s office is ready to protect and serve.

The sheriff’s office in Indian River County, along Florida’s Treasure Coast, introduced K9 Willow over the weekend. Willow is just 10 weeks old, making her the youngest member of the K9 team.

According to a post on the sheriff’s office Facebook page, the Jimmy Ryce Center donated funds to the sheriff’s office for Willow. The pup was purchased from Bluegrass Bloodhounds and comes from a long line of law enforcement search and rescue bloodhounds.

Deputy Brian Reimsnyder is Willow’s full-time handler. He will also be in charge of her search-and-rescue training.

“We have no doubt that with Deputy Reimsnyder’s guidance and expertise Willow will become an integral part of our team,” the post said.

Once Willow completes her training, she will replace the current search and rescue bloodhound, Dixie. Dixie will then retire after 12 years of service and will stay with Deputy Reimsnyder and his family.
