Authorities are trying to figure out how a vehicle ended up in a canal after a police-involved shooting in Florida City on Thursday, NBC 6 reports.
The incident occurred on U.S. 1 near Mile Marker 114, close to the Florida Keys.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, there is a vehicle in the water and shots were fired, but no further details were immediately available. Miami-Dade Police reported a shooting involving at least one of their officers. The officer was not injured, but one person was taken to the hospital.
Video from the scene showed the car upside down in the water. It’s still unclear if anyone was hurt or still inside the vehicle.
The southbound lanes of U.S. 1 at Card Sound Road in Florida City are closed as troopers investigate.
