ORLANDO, Fla. (WESH)  — Despite the best efforts of an Orange County animal refuge, a mysterious and hairless animal found under a car last weekend has died.

For almost three decades, Back to Nature Wildlife Refuge in Orange County has been nursing animals back to good health and teaching people about wildlife.

However, it’s never seen anything quite like a hairless raccoon.

She was found in Windermere underneath a car eating acorns.

The creature was brought to the wildlife refuge, and on Sunday, it was seen by a vet and was put on medications. It passed away late Wednesday night.

The animal refuge said in a post on its Facebook page, that it was grateful for the chance to try and save her.
