WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (WCMH) — A teacher battling cancer ran out of sick days. He placed a plea on Facebook asking for help from other teachers.
Now, he has enough sick days to last an entire semester.
Robert Goodman has taught history at Palm Beach Gardens Community High School for 23 years. In April, the 56-year-old learned he had stage III colon cancer.
After his sick days quickly disappeared, Robert begrudgingly posted on Facebook asking for help.
“Doing chemo and wearing my pump on me several times a day during that treatment I thought, how am I going to do this?” Goodman said.
By Thursday, he learned there were enough sick days donated that he would have enough sick time to heal without worry.
“Educators all over the country were reaching out to me to donate their sick days, even professors over at Florida Atlantic University,” he said. “I felt guilty because I knew there were people who had it much worse than me.”
Goodman expects he’ll be on chemo until at least Halloween. He plans to give back any of the sick days he doesn’t use during his recovery.
