TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Brightline will connect another Florida city to its high-speed rail network.

The train line announced its plans to build a new station in Stuart. The proposed location for the station is 500 Southeast Flagler Avenue, in the city’s downtown area near the Martin County Courthouse, according to NBC affiliate WTVJ.

WPTV reported that Brightline considered five proposals in Martin and St. Lucie counties. The company was required to build a station along the Treasure Coast within five years of launching service to Orlando.

Brightline is considering expanding to Tampa. The company said its phase three plan would link Central Florida to South Florida.

A Brightline spokesperson told News Channel 8 that it would take three years to build the Tampa extension after funding, design and engineering are finalized. The proposed route would travel through Polk County along Interstate 4.

The train line has stations in Boca Raton, downtown Fort Lauderdale, Aventura, downtown Miami and at the Orlando International Airport.

WPTV reported that the new Stuart station will open by the end of 2026.
