Authorities say a baby and her 5-year-old sister have died in a Florida apartment fire.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue officials said firefighters arrived Saturday morning to smoke and flames coming from the third floor apartment. After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters found two children dead inside a bedroom.
The baby girl was 5-months-old. The victims have not been identified, but a family friend said the girls’ parents were at work and the children’s aunt was babysitting.
Enid Torres said the aunt went to the store with the girls’ 2-year-old brother and returned to find the apartment on fire.
It’s unclear what sparked the blaze. The Sun Sentinel reports that all residents were evacuated as rescuers stressed concerns about smoke inhalation.
