A two-year-old child has died from his injuries after he was shot inside a Jacksonville apartment complex Saturday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO announced the death of 2-year-old Jayden James Piedra on Twitter at 7:20 P.M. JSO said Piedra was shot inside a home at the Morning Side Apartments in the 2400 block of Jammes Road at 10:16 A.M.

Piedra was rushed to a local hospital where he later died according to Police.

The investigation is ongoing but JSO says they are not looking for any suspects.

JSO reminds gun owners to make sure their firearms are secured in order to promote safety. Florida law states that anyone who stores or leaves a loaded firearm where a person under 16 years old could access it must do the following:
•    Keep the firearm in a securely locked box or container;
•    Keep the firearm in a location which a reasonable person would believe to be secure; or
•    Secure the firearm with a trigger lock.
