ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. (WESH) – Lorraine Engelhart was born on July 23, 1918. On Friday, she turned 103. Our NBC affiliate, WESH 2 News, dropped by for the celebration in Altamonte Springs, which included a visit from the mayor.
The party honored Engelhart, a mother of four, grandmother of 12, great-grandmother to 24, and great-great-grandmother of 10.
“(I) hereby wish Lorraine Engelhart a very happy 103rd birthday and hope she can continue to spend quality time with her family, friends, and this community for many more years,” Mayor Pat Bates said.
“That 103 came awfully fast,” Engelhart said with a smile.
Engelhart shared she enjoyed quilting her entire life, saying it was a way to express herself.
“I always enjoyed sewing, all my life I sewed,” Engelhart said.
Last year for her birthday, her family held a drive-by celebration, this year she was glad to have them around.
“Real good for a change because they’re sprawled out all over,” Engelhart said.
Staff and fellow residents where Lorraine lives in Altamonte Springs signed a birthday card with messages for her milestone birthday.
“103, I never thought I’d make it,” she said with a laugh.
