DELAND, Fla. (AP) – A central Florida gang member has been found guilty of killing a retired salesman and stealing his car in 2013 in Daytona.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that a jury convicted the now-20-year-old Emmanuel Butler of first-degree felony murder and other charges Friday.
Prosecutors say the man shot 67-year Donald Clark in the back of the head in an apartment building laundry room.
The defense argued that prosecutors didn’t have the murder weapon or the defendant’s DNA or fingerprints at the crime scene.
Prosecutors played the jury a recording of the then-17-year-old admitting to the killing, saying he specifically targeted Clark as his “meal ticket.”
Butler’s 61-year-old grandmother, known as “Gangster Granny,” was also arrested for refusing to tell investigators what she knew about the case.
