TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tens of thousands are pouring into Cleveland this weekend ahead of this week’s Republican National Convention. Presumptive nominee Donald Trump has promised this convention will be like no other.
Ninety-nine Florida delegates and their alternates are headed to Cleveland for what Trump has promised will be an “unconventional convention.”

If you had asked any political strategist months ago, they would’ve thought the Republican National Convention would be contentious.
“I think it’s going to be a very entertaining and very enjoyable but I don’t expect the tension. There will be a little tension but it won’t be bad,” said Hillsborough County Republican and delegate alternate Mark Proctor. His concerns if any, center around security.
“Well, of course, you have to have concerns with what’s going on but I feel very confident that they’re going to have it in good shape like they did here in Tampa. It’s going to be safe as long as you stay within their perimeter,” added Proctor.
Security at this week’s Republican National Convention will be tight. Military equipment is now in Cleveland and out-of-town police officers have been sworn in to assist Cleveland police. Inside Quicken Loans Arena, final improvements are being made to the main stage where Donald Trump will accept the party’s presidential nomination. Officials estimate 50,000 visitors will be in town for the convention.
But there is plenty for republicans to look forward to with a lineup of speakers including Melania Trump, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi and a long list of others.
“I’m really looking forward to hearing from the vice presidential candidate. I really had never heard him before, Mr. Pence. It sounds like it’ll be exciting looking forward to that and of course, Donald Trump is always a lot of fun,” added Proctor.
