INVERNESS, Fla. (WFLA) – A Citrus County middle school was damaged in a fire on Wednesday morning.
No one was inside Inverness Middle School when the fire broke out. Firefighters were called to the fire at 6:45 a.m after the fire alarm went off at the school. The fire was located inside the roof of one of the wings of the school, according to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.Related: Click here to see photos of the fire
Four fire rescue units initially responded to the call. The Fire Marshal also responded to the scene Wednesday morning and is investigating what caused the blaze. School officials were at the school Wednesday morning to assess the damage.
No one was inside the school when the fire started because school is out for the summer. Inverness Middle School is located at 1950 U.S. 41 in Inverness.
