Tampa – Friends and family of a 14-year-old boy who was gunned down in broad daylight Sunday held a vigil in his memory Monday.

Edward Harris Junior was killed Sunday afternoon outside Woodlawn Terrace Park, just a block away from his home. “Too many babies are losing their lives. My nephew is innocent. He was in a park where he is supposed to be safe,” Harris’ aunt Tammie Straughter said.

Friends and family called the boy E.J. “Y’all need to speak up and tell these people what y’all know,” Straughter begged.

EJ’s classmates told News Channel 8 they wore black and white to school today in honor of their friend. “He just cared about everybody. You would just be in a bad mood, and he would come to you and brighten your day. I don’t understand why you would want to take a 14-year-old’s life. He had a whole life ahead of him,” classmate Trinity Rodriguez said.

“I cried yesterday a lot, for a few hours,” Rodriguez added.

Tampa Police reported late Monday evening they found a silver Infiniti thought to be connected to the murder but said they still have not made any arrests.

“It really hurts so if you know anything guys, break this code of damn silence. We don’t need no code of silence. People are losing their lives every day and it’s got to stop,” community activist Vivian Heyward said.
