MEXICO (KRON) – Mexican drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman made a brazen escape form a Mexican prison, and is now thumbing his nose at Mexican authorities by posting a picture of him flying in an airplane.
The capture of Guzman was the crowning achievement of President Enrique Pena Nieto’s government in its war against drug cartels, until the escape. In what has been a PR and national security nightmare, Guzman’s escape proves cartels are still incredibly powerful entities that are able to circumnavigate the Mexican government’s authority.
The New York Post reports that the humiliating photos were posted on a blog by the billionaire drug lord’s son.
Authorities have been scouring the Santa Juanita area west of Mexico City, but the released airplane photo proves the search could span much father than the immediate area.
He is also photographed enjoying his freedom, drinking a beer.
