BRANDON, Fla. (WFLA) – One person was killed in a possible Brandon road rage shooting Friday night, deputies said.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting, which happened on Bloomingdale Avenue near Kings Avenue around 6:30 p.m., deputies said.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Debbie Carter said two vehicles were stopped in traffic. An individual left his vehicle and approached the second vehicle, Carter said. “Words were exchanged and shots were fired,” she said.
“All of a sudden, we hear, ‘pop, pop, pup.’ Three or four quick shots,” a witness said. “We’re sitting there like, we’re all seeing it. It’s chaotic. Everybody going nuts; people go out, help him. He was already gone by the time people went and helped him.”
The incident started a few blocks from the spot of the shooting when the two people exchanged words, Carter said.
The deceased man has been identified as Kenneth Michael Cuevas, 27.
The shooter waited for law enforcement and is cooperating with law enforcement, authorities said. “The investigation is very early. It’s a real active scene, as you all can see out here. There are many witnesses in the area that will be interviewed and detectives are also interviewing the shooter that is involved,” Major Rob Bullara with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
