PASCO COUNTY, FL (WFLA) – A 13-year-old girl was driving and another teenage girl was in the passenger seat when they hit a power pole after a Pasco deputy followed them trying to pull them over, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. When an ambulance responded to the crash, it was hit by another car near the scene.

It all happened on Darlington Road near US Highway 19 early Sunday morning. Two teens, both 13-year-old girls, were in a 2007 Hyundai Sonata, going east on Darlington. A Pasco County Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted the car driving eratically and thought he was dealing with a drunk driver. He followed the sedan telling dispatch that there was no traffic and that his speed wasn’t above 45 miles per hour.

At the intersection with US 19 the teen driver crashed into a power pole. FHP troopers responded to the crash scene and the officers called an ambulance. When the emergency vehicle arrived it was hit by a 2005 Nissan Altima that didn’t yield.

The driver of the Nissan, 80-year-old Jack Barrier, and his passenger Barbara Barrier, 77, both of Kernersville, NC, had no injuries. Jack Barrier was cited for failing to yield to the ambulance.

According to the PCSO, the teens are listed as possible runaways in the area. They were taken to local hospitals with injuries.

The deputies also discovered that the car they were driving had been stolen. It was left unlocked with the key in the car by its owner in Holiday. The owner didn’t know the teens took the car.

PCSO detectives are investigating the case and the criminal charges are pending. FHP will handle the investigation of the crash. The ambulance driver and hs passenger got minor injuries in this crash.MORE NEWS:
